Dshell’s MMA Main Event 7.9.2022

MMA is a sport based on opportunity and split second decision making. The breakdowns that we try to focus on here will be looking at stylistic differences between fighters and how they will impact the card. Although the breakdowns won't usually be long, they'll have info on fighter strengths and weaknesses and how we expect them to be exploited. Towards the end of the article there will be the five best bets on the slate for you to tail!

Not a great fight card, but there are some diamonds in the rough in this card. Check the article for the where you can go to find those diamonds.

All my information is from https://fightodds.io/ and https://paydirtdfs.com/mma-ranks-and-leverage-model/

Ronnie Lawrence (Wrestler) vs Saidyokub Kakharamonov (Striker)

This one will be interesting. Lawrence is going to try to take down, but Saidyokub is quite good at defending the takedown. Look for Saidyokub to defend takedowns and pick him apart on the feet.

Kakharamonov +100

Kennedy Nzechukwu (Striker) vs Karl Roberson (Striker)

I love me some Kennedy, so some bias here. I do think he is the stronger fighter, so hopefully that translates to a KO win.

Nzechukwu -145

David Onama (Striker) vs Garrett Armfield (Striker/Grappler)

Not going to write much here. Don’t think this will be close. Onama is going to be the bigger and better fighter in there.

Cody Brundage (Wrestler) vs Tresean Gore (Striker)

Gore looked really good in TUF, but lost the final to a very good fighter. He is the superior striker, while Brundage is going to look to take him down. Gore is a good defender of takedowns, so I think he has a chance of finishing this one.

Antonina Shevchenko (Striker) vs Cortney Casey (Striker/Grappler)

Should be a nice little striking match. I give the edge to Shevchenko on the feet. If Casey can get her to the ground, we may be looking at a different ending, but I don’t see it happening.

Aiemann Zahabi (Well Rounded) vs Ricky Turcios (Striker/Wrestler)

I loveeee Ricky. Man is just a wild man and always pushes the pace. On the other hand, Zahabi likes to slow it down and fight at his own pace. Will be interesting to see who's fighting style wins here.

Michael Johnson (Striker/Wrestler) vs Jamie Mullarkey (Striker/Wrestler)

You always have the chance Michael will knock you out, but Jamie is one of the ones that is just tough as nails. I think he tries to wrestle and can do it pretty easily.

Cynthia Calvillo (Grappler) vs Nina Nunes (Striker)

This one is a true toss up for me. I could see it going either way. Both girls aren’t great and have holes in their game. The model has them very close as well.

Jared Vanderaa (Striker) vs Chase Sherman (Striker)

Two shitty heavyweight strikers with one being more shitty. Vanderaa wins this.

Vanderaa -210

Said Nurmagomedov (Striker/Grappler) vs Douglas Silva de Andrade (Striker)

I really really like Douglas. It sucks he has to run into Said. Said can be picked apart striking though. If Douglas can keep this standing, we may see a little upset.

Caio Borralho (Striker) vs Armen Petrosyan (Striker)

I think a lot of people will be on Caio here, but I really like Armen. He has some really good kickboxing and I think he wins it, if he can keep this standing.

Petrosyan +190

Rafael dos Anjos (Well Rounded) vs Rafael Fiziev (Striker)

Best fight of the night by far. I love some RDA here. Fiziev hasn’t faced a challenge like RDA yet. One thing RDA does is win and he knows how to win. He will be pressuring him nonstop and not let him get shots in like he normally does. Give me another dog.

Dos Anjos +175

Dshell’s MMA Main Event 6.25.2022

MMA is a sport based on opportunity and split second decision making. The breakdowns that we try to focus on here will be looking at stylistic differences between fighters and how they will impact the card. Although the breakdowns won't usually be long, they'll have info on fighter strengths and weaknesses and how we expect them to be exploited. Towards the end of the article there will be the five best bets on the slate for you to tail!

All my research is from https://fightodds.io/ and https://paydirtdfs.com/mma-ranks-and-leverage-model/

Jinh Yu Frey (Striker) vs Vanessa Demopoulos (Grappler)

Looks like a really bad matchup for Vanessa. She is pretty much a sub or bust and Frey has a 90% takedown defense. I like Frey in this one to start off the night.

Frey -240

Mario Bautista (Striker/Grappler) vs Brian Kelleher (Striker/Grappler)

This is an interesting fight between two veterans in the sport. Mario is going to be the better striker and look to keep this one on the feet, while Brian is going to get nasty and in range for a takedown. I think Brian knows how to get the victory, so he wins via split.

Kelleher +140

Cody Durden (Striker/Wrestler) vs JP Buys (Wrestler)

Buys is super in need of a win here and will be starting out very strong to try to get a win here. Durden has looked pretty vulnerable with getting submitted, so we may see an early sub here.

Raulian Paiva (Striker/Grappler) vs Sergey Morozov (Striker/Grappler)

This looks like a win or get cut for Morozov. He desperately needs a win here. He should go to his wrestling to try to secure that. Paiva isn’t the best of grapplers, so I think it’s a big advantage for Morozov if he goes to ground.

Morozov -140

TJ Brown (Striker/Wrestler) vs Yilan Sha (Striker/Grappler)

This looks like a good time for TJ to get his first win in the UFC. Sha has been destroyed in most of his fights, while getting finished in most of them also. I like to get a finish here.

Tafon Nchukwi (Striker) vs Carlos Ulberg (Striker)

This should be a fun ugly fight. Both of these guys are pretty impatient and just throw big bombs. I have seen Tafon try to grapple strikers and I think he will go to that in this one.

Chris Curtis (Striker) vs Rodolfo Vieira (Grappler)

I am a Chris Curtis lover, so all bais over here. Then I looked at the model and saw he was the #1 fighter there. Nothing else needs to be said.

Curtis -125

Umar Nurmagomedov (Striker/Grappler) vs Nathan Maness (Striker)

Maness is really good and I think he will have a nice little future in the UFC. He is just fighting someone with the same last name as Khabib. Good luck.

Christos Giagos (Striker) vs Thiago Moisés (Grappler)

Giagos likes to use his physicality to get an advantage over his opponents. He won’t be able to do that with Thiago. Thiago should be able to get this one to the ground and get a submission.

Josh Parisian (Striker) vs Alan Baudot (Striker)

Coin flip fight between two heavyweight strikers? Fun stuff!! You’ll need the winner of this to win a GPP. I am giving it to Parisian because Baudot usually fades in his fights and that's a death sentence vs heavyweights.

Parisian -110

Neil Magny (Striker/Grappler) vs Shavkat Rakhmonov (Well Rounded)

I like some Magny here. I may be the only one in the world, but I think the man just knows how to win. He is the definition of a gatekeeper for this division. Shavkat is really good, so he may just wipe the floor with Magny, but I think he has a real shot.

Magny +375

Arman Tsarukyan (Well Rounded) vs Mateusz Gamrot (Striker/Grappler)

Can we talk about how jacked these dudes are? Holy moly. This should be a really good fight and closer than the line suggests. Arman is never in bad situations because he is such a damn good scrambler and that may be the difference right there. Gamrot is really good though and does everything almost as good as Arman. I’m not making a pick here because I think it’s too close.

Check out the new MMA model! https://paydirtdfs.com/mma-ranks-and-leverage-model/

Kyle Daukaus (Striker/Grappler) vs Roman Dolidze (Striker/Wrestler)

Daukaus has been very impressive in the UFC and has been getting better and better. On the other hand, Dolidze has been looking worse and worse. I think this is a pretty slow paced fight that ends in a decision. He is too expensive for my liking in DFS.

Phil Hawes (Wrestler) vs Deron Winn (Wrestler)

Hawes has a huge advantage here on his feet. He has a massive size difference that will cause Deron problems trying to get close and wrestle him. Hawes is the highed ranked fighter on James’ model and I like that.

Cody Stamann (Striker/Wrestler) vs Eddie Wineland (Striker)

This really feels like a easy win for Stamann. He really needs a win and the UFC gave him the perfect opportunity for one. Shouldn’t be close.

Gloria de Paula (Striker) vs Maria Oliveira (Striker)

If de Paula really has improved on the ground, then I could really see her getting a finish. If she hasn’t, then it’ll be a slow one.

Ricardo Ramos (Grappler) vs Danny Chavez (Striker)

This card has a ton of big favorites and this is another one. Ramos has very exciting fights in the UFC and usually ends in finishes. This will be another one here. Ramos by sub.

Ramos -300

Jeremiah Wells (Grappler) vs Court McGee (Wrestler)

Finally have our first toss up fight. Wells is going to try to finish this early or he will fade in the second half of the fight. I think it will end in a decision, but a toss up on who will get it. The model leans Wells, so I’ll go with him.

  • Jasmine Jasudavicius (Striker) vs Natalia Cristina da Silva (Striker/Grappler)

My first dog of the night. I really like Silva’s striking and all of her finishes have come from submissions. I don’t think Jasmine offers much at all.

Silva +195

Adrian Yanez (Striker) vs Tony Kelley (Striker/Grappler)

I think this fight is much closer than the line suggests. Kelley is going to make this ugly and he may start the fight with a lead. Yanez should pull away late though.

Julian Marquez (Striker) vs Gregory Rodrigues (Grappler)

Give me the best nickname in the UFC. The Cuban Missile Crisis. If Marquez catches him, it won’t be pretty. Rodrigues does not have the greatest chin in the UFC.

Damir Ismagulov (Striker/Grappler) vs Guram Kutateladze (Striker)

This fight is literal definition of a toss up for me. So I go to the model to see what it says. The model like Kutateladze better, so we take the dog!

Kutateladze +142

Joaquin Buckley (Striker) vs Albert Duraev (Grappler)

Buckley could easily know Duraev out, but he has to worry about getting taken down. Duraev should be able to do this and get the victory.

Kevin Holland (Striker) vs Tim Means (Striker)

Kevin is just a much better fighter than Means. He just has to get through the gatekeepers at 170 before they give him the real guys.

Donald Cerrone (Well Rounded) vs Joe Lauzon (Grappler)

This is such a bad matchup for Cowboy. Cowboy is such a slow starter and Joe starts so fast and goes so hard for a first round finish. I just don’t see Cowboy winning this one and it sucks.

Lauzon +135

Calvin Kattar (Well Rounded) vs Josh Emmett (Striker/Grappler)

This fight fucks so hard. Kattar is the better striker and should be able to piece up Emmett, but Katter is quite reckless sometimes. Go watch the Max fight. Look out for the right hand from Emett or it WILL put you on your ass. I hope we get 5 rounds of this!

Welcome to the PayDirt MMA breakdowns

Although the breakdowns won't usually be long, they'll have info on fighter strengths and weaknesses and how we expect them to be exploited. Towards the end of the article there will be the five best bets on the slate for you to tail!

Make sure to go check out the new MMA model that James created!

Joselyne Edwards (Striker) vs Ramona Pascual (Striker)

The card is full of striker vs grappler fights and we get one to start the night. Edwards has horrible wrestling defense and Pascual is going to look to get her to the ground. Edwards should have the reach to keep this one at distance.

Bet: Edwards -170

Silvana Gomez Juarez (Striker) vs Na Liang (Grappler)

This fight is really fun. Na is a crazy MF. I like Na to get her to the ground and finish this early. She is just too crazy in there for Silvana.

Bet: Liang +110

Kyung Ho Kang (Striker/Grappler) vs Danaa Batgerel (Striker)

Kang has a lot more options to go to if he wants to. Danaa has some really good hands though. Kang does a good job of keeping his opponents on the ground and has never been knocked out in his career. Should be a fun fight.

Jake Matthews (Striker) vs Andre Fialho (Striker)

Fialho has been very impressive in the UFC so far. He is going to hit a brick wall here. Matthews is going to get some strikes at distance and then pop in and shoot a takedown.

Bet: Matthews +120

Steve Garcia (Striker) vs Hayisaer Maheshate (Striker)

Should be a striking battle here, but Garcia may shoot a takedown or two. Maheshate isn’t the greatest on the ground, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Garcia tries to go there.

Seung Woo Choi (Striker) vs Joshua Culibao (Grappler)

Culibao is going to have to try to grapple here to win this one. Choi is the much superior striker in this one. Culibao just has so many problems with longer fighters and that’s exactly what Choi is.

Bet: Choi -240

Brendan Allen (Well Rounded) vs Jacob Malkoun (Striker)

Tough tough fight for Malkoun. Brendan is so much better everywhere it goes. He can finish this wherever he wants. Look for him to get an early finish.

Bet: Allen -300

Jack Della Maddalena (Striker) vs Ramazan Emeev (Striker)

Nothing like a snoozefest to start the main card. I really hope Maddalena can finish him early so we don’t have to watch Emeez try to keep cage control the whole game.

Weili Zhang (Striker) vs Joanna Jedrzejczyk (Striker)

So excited we get to run this one back. Joanna probably shouldn’t brawl like she did last time, but I think that is just her style. I think we see a very similar result to last time.

Bet: Zhang -170

Valentina Shevchenko (Striker) vs Taila Santos (Striker)

Don’t think I need to say much here. No one is close to Valentina. I think Nunes is one of few that can put up a fight with her. Another dance for Valentina.

Glover Teixeira (Striker) vs Jiri Prochazka (Striker)

I really really want Glover to win this. It sucks because Glover gets hurt quite a bit, but Jiri has some different level of power. He can knock you out in so many different ways. The hope for Glover is that Jiri does too much crazy shit and Glover can grapple him. If he can do this, he has a really good chance to win this.

Welcome to the PayDirt MMA breakdowns

MMA is a sport based on opportunity and split second decision making. The breakdowns that we try to focus on here will be looking at stylistic differences between fighters and how they will impact the card. Although the breakdowns won't usually be long, they'll have info on fighter strengths and weaknesses and how we expect them to be exploited. Towards the end of the article there will be the five best bets on the slate for you to tail!

Erin Blanchfield (Well Rounded) vs JJ Aldrich (Striker)

Pretty tough test for Aldrich. Blanchfield will be the best grappler she has faced. We will see how she fares vs. her.

Andreas Michailidis (Striker) vs Rinat Fakhretdinov (Wrestler)

Another tough fight for Andreas here. His cardio could be a big issue in this one. Rinat will wrestle him non stop in this one and wear him out.

Jeff Molina (Grappler) vs Zhalgas Zhumagulov (Striker)

This should be a fun fight. Both guys are willing to throw and both are quite durable. Should be one of the fun ones to watch tonight.

Tony Gravely (Striker/Wrestler) vs Johnny Munoz Jr. (Grappler)

Gravely will want to keep this one standing, where he is much better on the feet. If it does get to the ground, Munoz has a big advantage in this one.

Benoit Saint-Denis (Grappler) vs Niklas Stolze (Striker)

I like the dog in this one. Stolze has shown he can stop the takedown and that’s pretty much all Benoit can do. If he does get him down, it should be all Benoit though.

Damon Jackson (Grappler) vs Dan Argueta (Grappler)

Tough spot here for Argueta. Fighting his debut on short notice and up a weight class? Also vs a Wrestler? Should be Damon winning this one.

Joseph Solecki (Grappler) vs Alex da Silva (Striker/Grappler)

Solecki has been much more impressive in the UFC than Silva. Silva is the better striker in this one, so if he wants to pull the upset then he is going to need to try to keep this fight standing.

Karolina Kowalkiewicz (Striker) vs Felice Herrig (Well Rounded)

I am a Karolina lover, so I won’t have a ton to say here besides my girl is getting back in the W column.

Alonzo Menifield (Striker) vs Askar Mozharov (Striker)

LOL. All this stuff with this dude's name is hilarious. With that being said, he is getting another L.

Ode Osbourne (Striker) vs Zarrukh Adashev (Striker)

Ode has been impressive lately and I think he can keep this at range and win this fight. Adashev is just too one dimensional for this one.

Poliana Botelho (Striker/Grappler) vs Karine Silva (Striker/Grappler)

This shall be an ugly one lol. Love that this is a fight on a main card. I think Botelho has the edge in this one because it seems Silva is still trying to figure things out. Who knows though lol.

Michael Trizano (Striker) vs Lucas Almeida (Striker)

Almedia starts very fast and really tries to finish it early. If Mike can handle this onslaught then it will be easy for him. But it’s no easy task getting by Almedia early.

Dan Ige (Grappler) vs Movsar Evloev (well Rounded)

This is such a tough one to call. Ige is really good and has great punching power on top of great grappling skills. With that being said, Evloev is much better on the ground. I think Ige has a path to victory and that’s staying on his feet.

Alexander Volkov (Striker) vs Jair Rozenstruik (Striker)

The gatekeeper for the heavyweights is back to try and put Jair back down a bit. The problem in this one is Volkov has looked quite bad recently and I have been hurt by him too many times recently. I like Jair in this one because I think he can be the faster fighter and also the stronger fighter.

BETS:

  • Stolze +135
  • Solecki -175
  • Kowalkiewicz +100
  • Osbourne -190
  • Rozenstruik +135

Although the breakdowns won't usually be long, they'll have info on fighter strengths and weaknesses and how we expect them to be exploited. Towards the end of the article there will be the five best bets on the slate for you to tail!

Sam Hughes (Striker) vs Elise Reed (Striker)

Both of these girls should not be in the UFC, but sometimes you just need to have fights on the schedule. Hughes has some better grappling and I think she uses it in this one to get the edge.

Chase Hooper (Grappler) vs Felipe Colares (Grappler)

Chase thinks he is a striker, but he is quite bad at it. Felipe has the edge striking and it will show in this one. Felipe gets the dub.

Jonathan Martinez (Striker) vs Vince Morales (Striker)

I think this is a much closer fight than what the odds are saying. Morales has been very prone to the leg kicks in his career, but he says that he has been working on it. If he has been, I think he can pull out an upset here.

Omar Morales (Striker) vs Uros Medic (Striker/Grappler)

Medic hasn’t really proved himself yet in the UFC, while Morales has shown he can fight with the good strikers. Medic has no ground game and I think Morales will exploit that and pull out a victory.

Parker Porter (Striker) vs Jailton Junior (Grappler)

This will be a huge weight difference. Parker is a true heavyweight and Jailton is a light heavyweight. I think Jailton gets a KO finish since it will be quite hard to get Porter down.

Joseph Holmes (Striker/Grappler) vs Alen Amedovski (Striker)

Holmes sucks. Alen sucks. Who knows what will happen… LOL

Eryk Anders (Striker) vs Jun Yong Park (Striker)

I think Anders has many more options he can go to in this fight. He is better on the ground if he needs to go there, and will be the bigger fighter. I like for him to get the upset.

Polyana Viana (Grappler) vs Tabatha Ricci (Grappler)

This should be a grapple battle and Ricci is the MUCH better grappler.

Chidi Njokuani (Striker) vs Dusko Todorovic (Striker)

I really like Chidi and think he has a major edge in the striking battle here. He has so much power. He is a little wild with it, but I think he gets the victory.

Santiago Ponzinibbio (Striker/Grappler) vs Michel Pereira (Striker)

Best fight on the card and it’s not close. It’s never an easy fight when you face Pereira, but Santiago is the gatekeeper in this division and you gotta beat him to get to the top. I think Santiago knows how to win and will pull off the victory.

Holly Holm (Striker) vs Ketlen Vieira (Striker/Grappler)

Holm is better everywhere here. She is the stronger fighter and the much better striker. She will dominate to a decision wherever this fight goes.

BETS:

  • Hughes +130
  • Colares -190
  • V. Morales +200
  • O. Morales -140
  • Ricci -130
  • Anders +170
  • Santiago +125
  • Holm -240

Welcome to the PayDirt MMA breakdowns

MMA is a sport based on opportunity and split second decision making. The breakdowns that we try to focus on here will be looking at stylistic differences between fighters and how they will impact the card. Although the breakdowns won't usually be long, they'll have info on fighter strengths and weaknesses and how we expect them to be exploited. Towards the end of the article there will be the five best bets on the slate for you to tail!

Make sure to go check out the new MMA model that James created!

Nick Maximov (Grappler) vs Andre Petroski (Wrestler)

Maximov is much much better on the ground and I have a feeling that is where this fight will be most of the time. Petroski is more likely to try and stand and throw here. I have not been impressed with Petroski at all.

Tatsuro Taira (Grappler) vs Carlos Candelario (Striker)

I think this would be a really close fight if it was just a boxing match. Add in UFC elements and I really like Taira. I think his ground game is a game changer in this one.

Virna Jandiroba (Grappler) vs Angela Hill (Striker)

I think we all know how this ends right? Hill getting screwed in a split decision. Cross eyed by decision.

Michael Johnson (Striker/Wrestler) vs Allan Patrick (Grappler)

I think the loser of this one is done with the UFC. With that being said, Patrick needs to get this to the ground and try to submit Michael, which is his weakness. I see this one going to the judges.

Viviane Araujo (Striker) vs Andrea Lee (Striker/Grappler)

Interesting top 10 fight here. Both are really solid strikers, but the advantage on the grappling side from Araujo here is going to be big.

Jake Hadley (Striker) vs Allan Nascimento (Grappler)

Flip a coin here. This fight is so damn close. Both of these men love to do the same thing and fight the same way. It’s a really close fight.

Frank Camacho (Striker/Grappler) vs Manuel Torres (Striker)

I would love for Camacho to win this one. I just worry that Torres is going to come out fast in this one and score a win.

Katlyn Chookagian (Striker/Grappler) vs Amanda Ribas (Striker/Grappler)

This is just a different class for Ribas. Katlyn is really good and she has so much size on Ribas. Look for her to get a decision win by yelling HUT 1000 times.

Louis Smolka (Striker/Grappler) vs Davey Grant (Striker)

I really like Smolka and he hasn’t been horrible since he came back. Grant is so much better on the feet that it’s a huge fight changer. Smolka will try to grapple where Grant still has the advantage.

Ryan Spann (Striker/Grappler) vs Ion Cutelaba (Sambo)

Spann is one of my least favorite fighters on the roster. I just do not think he is good at all. Ion is going to baptize Ryan and he will join the top 15.

Jan Blachowicz (Striker) vs Aleksandar Rakic (Striker)

What a fun fight here! Possible next contender for the title here! This fight is oh so difficult to call though. I really like Jan and how much he battles and wins fights that he shouldn’t be winning, but Rakic is so big and such a nightmare matchup. It’ll be really interesting to see how it plays out.

BETS:

  • Lee -125
  • Hadley -210
  • Torres -140
  • Chookagian -180
  • Cutelaba -230
  • Rakic -200

All my fight information is collected from https://fightodds.io/
